Jeonju, a city rich with Tradition and Culture
Jeonju Hanok Village
Jeonju Hanok Village is located in Jeonju city and takes 3 hours from Seoul. There are over 800 traditional Korean 'hanok' houses.
This Hanok village retains its historical charms and traditions. Jeonju Hanok village is especially beautiful for its roof curves. The roof edges being slightly raised to the sky is unique.
There are many fascinating tourist attractions nearby or on Jeonju Hanok Village such as Pungnammun Gate, Gyeonggijeon Shrine, Jeondong Catholic Cathedral, Jeonju Korean Traditional Wine Museum, Jeonju Hyanggyo(Confucian School), Jeonju Traditional Hanji Center, Omokdae, Imokdae, Namcheon Bridge and so on.
Gwanghalluwon Garden
Gwanghalluwon Garden was constructed in 1419 by Mr.Hwang, a noted prime minister in the early Joseon Dynasty. The garden has many historical relics such as Gwanghallu Pavilion which is symbol of garden, the Maninuichong Tomb, Ojak Bridge, Gyorongsanseong Fortress and so on.
Gwanghallu Pavilion is one of the Joseon Dynasty’s most exemplary structures. It is famous as the location where Lee Mong-ryong and Chunhyang (two lovers from a well-known Korean folk story) first met. Please check out the Chunhyang Love Story in Wikipedia below.
Most Koreans know this love story and that's why tourists who come in Namwon city first visit this attraction.
Chunhyang Theme Park
Chunhyang Theme Park in the Namwon Tourist Complex in Namwon City, Jeollabuk-do Province celebrates the story of Chunhyang, a love story similar to that of Romeo and Juliette.
Chunhyang Theme Park consists of five different sections illustrating the famous story: 'Scene of First Encounter', 'Scene of Pledge', 'Scene of Love and Separation', 'Scene of Suffering' and 'Scene of Celebration'.
You will love this Korean folk love story and theme park and want to be one of two lovers of the story.
Damyang Juknokwon(Bamboo Garden)
Juknokwon is the most famous bamboo forest garden in Korea and is spread across an area of almost 3.1 million square meters. This Bamboo Garden features a beautiful artificial waterfall, pavilion, walking paths and an eco-exhibition center. It takes about one hour to look around the entire garden. Every year many Korean and foreign tourists visit this garden to refresh themselves.
Damyang Metasequoia-lined Road
Many visitors visit a beautiful and exotic boulevard that looks like it is came straight out of a fairytale. This unearthly place is the Metasequoia-lined Road.
Metasequoia trees were planted along the street in the early 1970s. At that time, the trees were only 3 to 4 years old and their branches stretched sparsely out into the sky. Now, the trees have grown so high that they seem like columns of sky. Because of these stately trees, the Korea Forest Service(KFS) selected the boulevard as one of the most beautiful roads in Korea.
